Frequently Asked Questions

Skywalker Solar was built on one core principle: put the homeowner first. Most solar companies can only offer you the one or two programs they sell — whether or not it's actually the best fit for your home. We've built a network of vetted partners across the U.S. so we can match you with the right program for your goals, not just the program we happen to carry. That means we work for you, not for a single solar company.

No — we work exclusively with vetted, licensed, and insured installers who are top-rated in their market. That's the point of working with a broker: a single solar company can only offer you their solution. We can shop your project across our network to find the best combination of price, equipment, and installer for your specific home — then we stay in your corner for ongoing support after the sale. Our installer partners compete for your business, so you're not stuck with whoever knocks on your door first.

Solar panels are made of photovoltaic cells. When sunlight hits them, they convert it into an electrical current (DC power). An inverter then converts that into the AC power your home actually runs on.

Your system powers your home first. Any extra electricity it produces gets sent back to your utility company as a credit — a process called net metering — which you can draw on later, like at night when your panels aren't producing.

  • Lower energy costs — homeowners who switch save an average of $61,000 over 25 years.
  • Protection from rising utility rates — rates have historically climbed 3-4% a year, and recent trends are running closer to 6-8% a year.
  • Increased home equity — Zillow's own research found solar homes sell for 4.1% more on average than comparable homes without solar.
  • A smaller carbon footprint for your household.

Every program we offer is designed with no out-of-pocket cost to you upfront. We work across multiple financing paths — cash purchase, solar loans, leases, and power purchase agreements (PPAs) — and match you to whichever structure actually fits your goals, rather than pushing a single option. Our goal is to leave you in a better financial position than you're in today — if you can comfortably manage your current electric bill, solar is worth a serious look.

It depends on your current electric rate, the programs available in your area, and your own goals — so your number will look different from your neighbor's. As a benchmark, homeowners who make the switch save an average of $61,000 over 25 years.

In most cases, no — and we'd rather tell you that upfront than oversell it. Most utility companies still charge a connection fee, typically $7-20 a month, which you're likely already paying today. A few utilities do allow customers to fully offset their bill, and some will even pay you for excess credits, but that varies by provider.

If your energy needs grow over time — say you start using more power than your system was designed to produce — you won't lose power. The extra simply comes from your utility, the same way it does today.

Yes, on cloudy days — your panels will still produce electricity, just less than on a clear day. During snow cover, no, your system won't produce power. But if your system is sized correctly, the extra credits you bank during summer months typically carry you through winter.

Generally about 3-4 months. The timeline depends on your state, city, and utility company — each has its own permitting and approval process, so some areas move faster than others. We'll give you a realistic estimate for your specific area once we know your location.

Selling with solar is easier than most homeowners expect. You typically have a choice: sell the system along with the home, or transfer the remaining payment to the new homeowner. As utility rates continue to rise, handing over a solar payment that's already lower than current rates is often an easy sell in itself.
